Meet the Elder Team

We believe that the leadership of the local church should be formed by the Scriptures rather than the world. For us, this means that LFDC is led by a plurality (Acts 20:17) of pastor/elders (Titus 1:5), qualified for leadership by the grace of Jesus Christ and in accordance with the requirements given by the Apostles (1 Timothy 3:1–13).

Therefore all of our leaders are not just in authority, but under it as well. Jesus Christ is the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4) of LFDC, to whom all of our leaders will give an account (Hebrews 13:17).

Jesse Smout

Lead Pastor of Preaching & Vision

I am unapologetically Calvinistic, continuationist, credo-baptistic, and Gospel-centered. If you really need to know, I'm like a blend of John Piper, Sam Storms, Matt Chandler and I'd like to think Spurgeon. We have a word we like to use in my parts, called, "convergence" - of Word and Spirit. As for my personal life, I love my wife, Cecelia and my boy, Luke. I am bi-vocational, as I also teach full-time at Saint Joseph High School in Ogden. In my severe lack of free time, you will likely find me studying, reading, writing, drawing, or playing/engaging with sports. Also, a side note - I'm a little obsessed with Sola Fide (makes sense, eh?). Soli Deo Gloria!
